Dr. Lexi McKenna is a Sonoran University–trained naturopathic physician on the Pediatrics Honors track who loves nothing more than hearing a patient's whole story. Known for remembering every detail — and explaining every lab result — she partners with entire families, from newborns to grandparents, on the big and small aspects of their health.
Book with this providerAsk Dr. McKenna why she became a doctor and the answer always comes back to Charley — a two-year-old she nannied from the time she was sixteen until she moved to Arizona at twenty-two. Charley has optic nerve hypoplasia with a pituitary gland deficiency; she is blind and takes synthetic versions of all her pituitary hormones every day. Her impact set Dr. McKenna on the path to medicine to help kids like her — and one of her favorite parts of the job is still watching newborns grow into big kids.
The naturopathic part of the answer came later. She grew up in a health-conscious, naturally minded family, but didn't know naturopathic medicine existed until her own health struggles in college — rushed visits, a new referral for every symptom, and nobody taking the time to look at the whole picture. She practices the opposite: enough time with every patient to see their whole health, connect the interconnecting symptoms, teach the physiology and pathology behind them, and build an individualized plan that meets their needs.
A first visit with Dr. McKenna is a conversation, not a checklist: what brought you in, a genuinely detailed history, and getting to know the person behind the patient — then creating the diagnostic and treatment plan together. She wants patients to know two things before they come in. First, never apologize for the details — listening to your story is her favorite part of the job. Second, you are her teammate: plans are individualized around your preferences, your budget, and what's actually realistic for your life, whether that leans toward diet and lifestyle changes, supplements, or medications.
Patients most often thank her for her attention to detail and personability — run into her at Costco and she'll remember your history without ever opening a chart — and for lab reviews that walk through every result until you truly understand what was tested and why it matters. The patients she most loves working with? Whole families: parents, grandparents, cousins, kids, and new babies as they come into the world. Knowing a family that well helps her catch the small changes in health before anyone else notices.
Outside the clinic, she's with her two boys, her husband, two dogs, and their extended family — usually cooking or baking from scratch (she's Italian, what can she say) or reading.
