Cupping is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that promotes healing through changes in pressure. Glass cups are briefly heated by a flame and then placed on the patient’s skin to create suction. This helps to promote healing and stretches deep layers of muscle. As these deeper layers of muscle are stretched, freshly oxygenated blood is able to flow through the muscle and aid in healing.
Cupping helps relieve muscle tension, improves blood flow and microcirculation, and promotes detoxification and cell regeneration of the tissues. Patients usually feel a slight pulling sensation on their skin, but the process is generally painless. Cupping is a great treatment option for aches and pains when used as a stand alone treatment or in conjunction with other pain relief treatments.
