In addition to this she holds a MSN from Western Governors University in Nursing Leadership and Management. She is also certified in Medical Acupuncture, Bioidentical Hormone Replacement and Medical Esthetics. Her continued education and pursuit of knowledge make her a highly sought after healthcare professional.
She started her journey in health care as a doula which led her down the path of nursing. As a new nurse working in the hospital she would see the same patients over and over being readmitted for the same issues. This was very discouraging and so many times she felt helpless and like she couldn’t truly care for people. However, she was inspired to continue her education as a Nurse Practitioner in order to utilize the whole person care model we practice in nursing as a primary care provider to help break the cycle of chronic/relapsing illness and prevent life limiting diseases which negatively affect the quality of life for so many patients.
The old adage “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is a great way to sum up April’s view on Naturopathic medicine and direct primary care. Medicine is both an art and a science. However, oftentimes unfortunately the art of treating the whole person is completely removed from primary care in traditional settings. Naturopathic medicine strives to provide not only holistic treatments for illness but also addresses the root cause of disease/dysfunction which is imperative in the practice of direct primary care. Inasmuch, her goal is to establish a supportive partnership with her patients in order to advocate, problem solve, and deliver individualized quality healthcare in order to support quality of life, promote wellness, decrease illness, and prevent chronic disease.
Keystone genuinely and tangibly cares for their patients and healthcare staff. April has witnessed this in many ways but specifically some of my favorite things about Keystone is that they advocate for patient and provider rights, offer affordable and personalized health care and intentionally serve the members of their community through outreach and educational events. She aims to not only maintain these qualities but also build on them.
She would describe her personality as straightforward but caring. She enjoys people and problem solving. She likes to get to know her patients personal stories, backgrounds, experiences, and histories. She approaches patient care as a partnership in which she advocates, educates, and establishes accountability for each of us to work towards positive lasting outcomes in their health. Her main hobby is being a mom but when she does have a free moment, enjoys bargain hunting, reading, and traveling both in the USA and overseas.
